The Story Behind the Song:
At the Table was born out of one of the most painful and transformative seasons of my life. After being outed as gay before I was ready, I lost nearly everything—my spouse, my job as a pastor, my home, and my community. It was a time of deep grief and disorientation, when I wasn’t sure where I belonged or who I was becoming.
In that wilderness, I began to rediscover grace—slowly, quietly, and in unexpected places. Out of that healing came this song. I drew from the beautiful lyrics of my brother, Rev. Dr. David Bjorlin, and added my own chorus and tune, creating something that holds both our voices—hope woven through lament, welcome born out of loss.
In a world where faith and politics are too often used to exclude, At the Table carries a message of radical welcome for all who have been pushed to the margins—especially within the LGBTQ community. It’s a reminder that God’s love is unconditional, unshaken by human prejudice.
I dedicate this song to everyone who has ever been denied a place at the table.
You are loved. You belong. And nothing can change that.

Need some good news? Here’s some: People can change. Music changes people. You’ve experienced this. You listen to something over and over again because it’s helping you get to the other side of something you wouldn’t have gotten through otherwise. Music softens, heals, integrates and enlivens us. This April, join us for the fourth installment of "Live at Art House North” for a night of hearing from Melody alongside some of her favorite artist friends to hear "The Songs that Changed Us". On this night, each performer will be invited to share and reflect on the songs that have transformed them in critical moments of their lives. Come gather with us for a night of remembering what is true, beautiful, and good as we celebrate the power of song.
Come worship with Awaken Community this Sunday at 9am or 10:30am. Stevie B will be leading music!
